According to a recent report from L’Equipe, West Ham could be turning to Olympique Lyon’s Dimitri Payet in an attempt to save themselves from possible relegation come the end of the season.
What’s the word, then?
It seems that push has already come to shove over at West Ham United back in the Premier League and for that reason, the Hammers just might resort to some extreme measures along the way.
L’Equipe mention that their situation is so dire – seeing how they are currently down in the danger zone spots in the English top-flight, sitting in 17th – that they would even consider bringing Payet back.
Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
Of course, the now 32-year-old forward left West Ham in 2017 to join the French side and now, he could be set for a sensational return, if the same outlet is to be believed.
However, there could be another twist in this tale as Sky Sports have quickly denied any contact for the player has been made as of yet and that West Ham don’t seem to be interested at this very moment.
Verdict
Scooping up Payet does seem like a rather bold and desperate move from the English outfit but at the end of the day, being almost at the very bottom of the barrel, that’s exactly what West Ham are at the moment.
The 32-year-old French international has already bagged eight goals across all competitions for Marseille in 2019/20 and seemingly still has quite a bit to offer to his side.
Losing him right now would also not be ideal for the French team, seeing how he’s their second-highest goal-scorer in Ligue 1 with six strikes, one behind Dario Benedetto who’s on seven.
Likewise, Marseille are currently second in the domestic league table and if they are really to keep up with Paris Saint-Germain – even if they are eight points behind them – they will need all the help they can get.
They will no doubt be hoping that Sky Sports are right and that the Hammers don’t plan a raid of their squad.
In other news, Barcelona are reportedly interested in loaning out one of Premier League’s best goal-scorers…
