Rodrigo Huescas could be facing deportation from Denmark, a situation that might abruptly end his contract with FC Copenhagen. The 21-year-old Mexican winger recently pleaded guilty to speeding and now faces legal consequences that could jeopardize his stay in the country. In light of this, Chivas are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, with interest in making a potential move for the player.
Huescas, a product of Cruz Azul’s academy, currently holds a market value of nearly $7 million. While he’s under contract with Copenhagen until June 2029, the Danish club may be forced to reconsider his future if deportation proceedings move forward. He’s still in his first season in Europe and has made 30 appearances for the club so far, scoring his lone goal in the UEFA Conference League.
Marca was the first to report on Chivas' interest in Huescas.

The incident at the heart of the controversy took place in March, when Huescas was caught driving at 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The consequences could include a fine of around $7,000 and a four-year ban from re-entering Denmark. A final verdict is expected on Monday, May 5, which will determine whether Huescas can continue his European career or will need to return to Mexico.
In recent hours, speculation has grown around Chivas as a likely destination should Huescas be forced to leave Europe. Guadalajara, who failed to qualify for the Clausura 2025 playoffs, are already planning for next season. Reinforcements are expected, along with the appointment of a new head coach following the dismissal of Gerardo Espinoza. Jaime Lozano and Domènec Torrent are reportedly leading the race for the job.
Huescas, who has just begun to establish himself under Copenhagen boss Jacob Neestrup, has also caught the attention of Mexico. He was recently included in the squad for the Nations League Finals by manager Javier Aguirre, although he didn’t play in either match. With just two senior caps so far, the winger is aiming to secure a place in the 23-man roster for this summer’s Gold Cup.

While Huescas made headlines as the first player to arrive in Denmark’s Superliga directly from Liga MX, he’s not the only Mexican presence in Danish football.
José Gallegos, a 23-year-old born in San Antonio, Texas, but of Mexican descent, plays for Sønderjyske in Denmark’s top division. The full-back joined the club in 2021 from San Antonio FC of the USL Championship. Despite his consistent performances, Gallegos has yet to be called up by either the U.S. Men’s National Team or the Mexican national team.
Another player with Mexican ties is Louis Harold Peña Christoffersen, also 21, who plays for FA 2000 in Denmark’s second division. Though he holds Danish nationality, Peña Christoffersen has been on the radar of Mexico’s youth national teams.

Chivas are set to resume training on May 21 as they begin preparations for both the Leagues Cup this summer and the Apertura 2025 season. Club president Amaury Vergara is under increasing pressure following recent failures, and securing a rising star like Huescas could be a step toward silencing critics and revitalizing the team’s image.
