Celtic did not have the most productive of transfer windows over the summer.
The Bhoys missed out on some targets while they also lost one the squad’s key players when Moussa Dembele left the club for Lyon on deadline day.
Manager Brendan Rodgers, though, is now expecting the Celtic Park hierarchy to get some important deals done when the transfer market reopens in January.
The Breakdown
“We’re assessing targets and the areas we need to strengthen in and improve,” Rodgers told the Daily Record.
“January is an important window. The guys behind the scenes are working really hard, preparing for some players to come in.”
As alluded to by Rodgers, the upcoming transfer window could be massive for Celtic. This season, there actually looks to be a title race on the cards in the SPL with the Bhoys level on points at the top with Hearts.
Meanwhile, in Europe, Celtic have a great chance of progressing into the knockout round of the Europa League following their recent 2-1 win over RB Leipzig.
Considering all of that, Peter Lawwell and co would be wise to actually answer Rodgers’ call for more signings this time round.
Centre-forward, in particular, is just one position the club should be looking to strengthen after Dembele’s exit. And with an opportunity to perhaps do something special in Europe this year, it would be disappointing if they came out of January empty-handed.
