During France's rollercoaster 5-4 defeat to Spain on Thursday in Stuttgart, they shipped four goals without reply. And according to OptaJean, this was the first time Les Bleus had done so since trailing 4-0 to Poland in August 1982. Moreover, this was the first time the French had conceded five or more goals since going down 5-0 to England back in March 1969.

France missed the chance to fight it out for a second Nations League title as they were deservedly beaten by Spain. Despite an incredible late comeback, Les Bleus' defence was ruthlessly exposed as the Euro 2024 winners squeaked into the final. While Didier Deschamps' men showed fight to come back, the way they fell so far behind is a huge cause for concern.
