David de Gea has calmed speculation that he could leave Manchester United for Real Madrid, reports El Confidencial .
What’s the word?
Whenever a transfer window approaches, rumours of De Gea returning to his homeland do the rounds.
Since the summer of 2015, when the goalkeeper’s proposed move to the Bernabeu fell through, the media has constantly speculated whether or not the Spaniard will end up at the Bernabeu.
It is partly understandable given that De Gea clearly wanted to join the La Liga giants two years ago, but he has never publicly expressed a desire to join Real.
The 27-year-old has given the clearest indication yet that he intends to stay at Old Trafford.
In an interview with El Confidencial, De said:
“Real Madrid? I’m the goalkeeper of Manchester United and Spain. What more could I ask for?”
Is this the end of the rumours?
Most likely no. If Madrid’s interest is serious then in most cases club’s of that stature get their way with regards to transfers.
However, De Gea’s short but sweet response rings true as he has no real need to take on the challenge at the Bernabeu.
Keylor Navas is the current number one at Real, and even though De Gea is one of the world’s best, he may need to fight for the shirt.
At United, the shot-stopper has that position nailed down, and even though Manchester City seem to be running away with the Premier League title, the Red Devils will always be competitive under Jose Mourinho.
Homesickness could eventually play a part in De Gea returning to Spain, but it seems that he is very secure at United.
