Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to sell Jordan Henderson to fund a summer move for Celtic’s Victor Wanyama, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The Reds’ interest in the burly Kenyan has spiked recently, with reports emerging that he has turned down a switch to Southampton as he holds out for a bigger club.
Rodgers is thought to be keen to add some physicality to his midfield, and sees the 22-year-old as the ideal man to compliment the ageing legs of Steven Gerrard.
But, with the Hoops holding out for £12m, and having already spent in excess of £20m himself, the Northern Irishman knows that he must sell before he can pursue a deal.
One man he is willing to offload is Henderson, whose position would be under question if Wanyama were to arrive at Anfield.
The England U-21 star was thought to be surplus to requirements last summer, but forced his way into the first-team with some gutsy and tireless performances.
Despite this, Rodgers is willing to let him leave for the right price, with the presence of many other midfielders in a similar mould making him an expendable force.
Wanyama has attracted the attention of a number of English clubs of late, with the likes of Arsenal and Cardiff thought to be keen.
Would Victor Wanyama be an upgrade on Jordan Henderson? Or has the former Sunderland man earned another year at Liverpool?
