The January transfer window is fast approaching and it could be a vital period for Sunderland to try and turn their season around.
Phil Parkinson will view it as the perfect opportunity to begin sculpting a squad which hasn’t played to the standards he expects so far, and it will be interesting to see who arrives.

Many possible targets could be put off joining due to the decline the club has experienced recently, with notable players experiencing a drop in their performances.
Will Grigg, for example, joined in the last January window and has since scored just eight goals in 48 games, and fans have been suggesting that Parkinson being in charge is a deterrent.
Their comments come in response to Parkinson saying Sunderland have a lot of appeal despite their lowly league position, with criticism being aimed at the boss.
Sunderland fans are rightly defiant in response to Parkinson’s claim due to his unpopularity at the club, which is also fair given his return of just two wins in 13 games.

However, he has achieved a lot in the game, including two promotions, and that kind of achievement likely garners respect amongst players in the EFL, not to mention the fact he could bring in individuals he has previously worked with.
Parkinson’s claim may have less value to it, though, as Sunderland rarely seem to have made players better in the last few years and their trajectory has been almost nothing but downwards, and that could deter interest from some potential targets.
One current player has shared his love at playing for the Black Cats, however, and that may possibly encourage others to join.
